Signature Hole – Diamond Hill Golf Course and Country Club

When I first created this website, I had this idea of going around to the area golf courses and video taping someone playing that particular course’s “signature/most definable” hole. It couldn’t just be anyone, though – I thought it would be important to have someone who knew the lay of the land and could best describe how to play that hole. Not only that, they had to be able to perform, too. As an avid golfer, I thought this would be something I could use myself when deciding where to play. Additionally, once I did choose, I would be able to use that insider knowledge for at least one hole and think like the scratch golfers think.

The first ever Signature Hole post belongs to Diamond Hill Golf Course and Country Club in Dover, FL. The hole is the par 3 15th. Credit for this accomplishment belongs to a few people, including Mr. Olivieri, the pro-shop manager at Diamond Hill. After hearing me out and realizing I wasn’t trying to sell something, he was on board. He then got the Club GM (I hear he goes by many titles), Chuck Peters, to approve the plan. Mr. Peters even offered his step-son, Eric Bradley, as my first guinea pig. At some point, Mike Coburn was paired to play with Eric. Along with a few members of the club’s staff, these four men deserve many thanks for their efforts. Once everyone was on board, it was just a matter of coordination and we were a go…Or so I thought.

The morning of filming couldn’t have been nicer. Beautiful blue skies and pure white clouds were above and the temperature was barely climbing. Then, out of nowhere, ominous dark gray clouds began rolling in from the Gulf. I arrived at the course an hour early to prep and started to get that uh-oh feeling as I watched the clouds creep closer and closer.

While the skies darkened, Mr. Olivieri was on the phone trying to get confirmation that the players were going to show up. It took a while, but eventually both Eric and Mike, a local scratch golfer, confirmed they were coming. Within 5 minutes of the rain starting both guys were on site and warming up. As I was finishing up an interview with Mr. Olivieri, I noticed that the rain was a little different this time. No typical thunder claps or bolts of lightning, and certainly no sudden downpour, it was kind of just a drizzle.

It turned out to be great conditions to play in. I seriously doubt either of these guys needed it but the overcast skies kept the heat down and the wind at bay, and the drizzle softened the greens just enough for them to hold.

–A few notes about the course

Diamond Hill opened in 1967 and is located at 13115 Sydney Rd, Dover, FL 33527-5968. The pro-shop phone is (813) 685-3775. Current weekday rates are $30 and weekends $35 for peak play. If you’d like to join the Diamond Hill Men’s Golf Association you can visit their site at www.dhmga.com.

I certainly hope you enjoy watching this video as much as I enjoyed filming and editing it. I can’t wait to do the next one!

It’s Not All Fun and Games

by GolfyGulfGuy on August 24, 2009
in Vid Posts

Most of the time during the home buying or selling process, the public sees the real estate agent out in the field doing very little. Being viewed more as a tour guide than a professional is a stigma most agents have been saddled with at one time or another during their careers.

As a Realtor, I understand how difficult it can be to impress upon someone the actual workload undertaken to enjoy that “leisurely” stroll through a few properties. They rarely see us behind the scenes, and when they do we’re only there to pick up a check. –Well not anymore!

Here’s a brief look from my web cam while I’m hard at work researching and scheduling some property tours.

Did you notice how long it took me to get another cup of coffee?

I had to leave the room and everything! Now imagine having to that 8-12 times a day and you start to understand how difficult my job is. :)

I hope you enjoyed my little web cam spoof and, all kidding aside, I graciously ask that you give your real estate agent the respect that he or she has earned in your company. For the most part, we really do a lot for that commission…just ask us!

“This Month In Real Estate”

by GolfyGulfGuy on August 20, 2009
in Stats, Vid Posts

As soon as I became a member of the Keller Williams family I was introduced to “This Month In Real Estate”, a monthly analysis of the current trends of real estate. Since then, I’ve been watching these monthly videos for my own benefit. With GolfyGulfHomes.Com up and running, I finally have a platform to share the consumer-oriented version with others.

In this month’s webisode the focus is on the summer buying season. Starting with the “Facts and Stats” segment  and concluding with  “News You Can Use” , there is a lot of useful information crammed into just over three minutes time. Pay special attention to the interview with Tommy Nelms of United Lending for a staggering difference in your mortgage term if you add just one extra payment a year!

GolfyGulfGlove Goes To The Driving Range!

by GolfyGulfGuy on August 16, 2009
in Vid Posts

In yesterday’s post I warned you that GolfyGulfGlove would be heard from shortly. As the following video will attest, he’s back with a swagger.
We spent the weekend near Orlando with the GolfyGulfGirlfriend’s parents and on Saturday we went to a driving range in Oviedo, FL. Although I haven’t hit golf balls in a few months, my swing wasn’t as affected as I thought it would be. From watching the video, you’ll see my pivot needs a little help but all-in-all a great effort.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take pride in my efforts as GolfyGulfGlove grabs all the credit for himself!

That Sounded Sweet!

If you haven’t already, you’ll soon start to notice the “Sweet Sound of Contact” as you visit any page on this site. This effort comes from a combination of some much needed “field work” and a little brotherly advice.

After a looooooong absence, I was finally able to break away from the computer and venture out for this “field work”  this afternoon at a driving range in Oviedo, FL with GolfyGulfGirlfriend (I know, I know, fiance) her father, future GolfyGulfFather-In-Law and of course, GolfyGulfGlove.

You’ll see more of GolfyGulfGlove in a later post, this one is to plug  my brother, Ryan Hartman, for that aforementioned advice. It came from this article over at HouseYourMom.Com about embedding audio into a blog post or page. As a self described “Freaky RE Lead Generator”, Ryan is, and always has been, at the very edge of both genius and abnormality. While some of his content may seem a little over the top, and it is,  it’s the meat behind it which warrants most of the attention. If you’re looking to generate business, and you want to use all that the internet has to offer to achieve it, then you need to contact Ryan as soon as possible. He’s always been a few steps ahead of the game and with him in your corner he’ll get you there too.

Thhhwaaaak!
